Let's get intimate - with Louise Proddow and Renee Denyer

Fluctuating hormones in the perimenopause and menopause years can have a massive impact on your sex life and intimacy in midlife.

There’s uncomfortable (and perhaps painful) symptoms, creeping anxiety, lowered body/self confidence and often a drop in libido too.

I spoke to Louise Proddow from Rejuvage and Renee Denyer from Sh! Women's Erotic Emporium as part of our #LetsGetIntimate month in partnership with Sylk Natural lubricant

Watch now :

In this video we talked about how to take control of your sex life, whether you're in a relationship or single. We spoke about female sexuality and pleasure and tips for a better sex life in midlife and menopause - including tips for boosting your arousal, why sex is so important, how to feel more confident and liberated, and how to include sex in your life with a partner or alone.

We also recognised that for many of us we will have to address certain barriers to a healthy sex life such as illness, surgery and menopausal symptoms.

Some of the topics we discussed included:

  • Why do women have less sex in midlife? Is it because they don't want to have sex and pleasure? (spoiler - the answer is no!). We talked about how stress, busy lives, tiredness, menopause and hormones, body confidence, low libidos and perhaps the lack of variation in the bedroom with a long-standing partner will all play a role.
  • How does body confidence affect sex and intimacy? Louise shared some tips for feeling more liberated and confident in midlife.
  • Why is female pleasure so important? We talked about why orgasms are good for us! And why sex doesn't need to involve penetration or even a partner! Renee revealed her recommended sex toys if you're new to sex toys or want to invest in something a little different (and read to the end of this article for a great offer on Sh! products too!). Ultimately, we agreed that there are lots of options for us whether you have a partner, or are single and that intimacy and self-pleasure is important for us all.
