5 super easy ways to take care of yourself!

Why self-care is so important when you are living life in the middle. Here's 5 easy ways to take care of you! by Catherine Davies

When you are busy working, and perhaps taking care of a family too, self-care can be relegated down to the bottom of your massive to do list. But it’s hard to look after everyone else when you’re not looking after yourself. Here are 5 easy ways to take care of yourself

1. Fuel your body with nutritious food, starting with breakfast. I love this tasty and healthy salt caramel protein smoothie And check out these 18 make-ahead meals and snacks so you can eat healthily without even trying.

2. Start your day with a positive affirmation. When you’re brushing your teeth try saying something like “Today, just showing up is enough”, or “I am going to be awesome today” Notice if it changes the way you feel.

3. Drink 8 big glasses of water. I am always hearing we should drink more. NHS Choices tells us we should drink plenty of water. I’ve noticed I feel more tired when I don’t drink enough water and my skin looks drier. Have you noticed a difference?

4. Meditate for 10 minutes as a gift to yourself. I love the calmness and stillness I feel when find a bit of time to just sit quietly. It really makes me feel so good. If I’m super busy, I’ll try to find 10 minutes or so to meditate on the tube, on the way into work or at lunchtime somewhere quiet. I love the Insight Timer app. It’s free and has guided meditations as well as a little timer. There’s one by Mooji called Nothing Here But You which is beautiful. The headspace app is also nice.

5. Find time to do something you love. Can you find time for something that you really love, that you loved doing before you were a wife or partner and a mum? I love riding my horse. It makes me so happy. Spending time riding means I can do all the other things I need to do so much better. My friend joined a choir recently and it lifts her soul to sing with a group of new friends. What do you love? Can you find a little window in yours schedule to fit it in?
